Miguel Ramirez, M.D. is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in shoulders, elbows and sports medicine.

After a shoulder injury ended his semi-professional sports career, Dr. Ramirez became dedicated to the care of athletes, with an emphasis on shoulder and elbow injuries. As part of his commitment to improving the lives of patients and athletes, Dr. Ramirez has also dedicated his career to performing research, which has led to novel discoveries that can help athletes return to the game and patients to living healthier, more active lifestyles.

Dr. Ramirez enjoys taking care of patients from all walks of life, not just athletes. In fact, one of his most memorable patients was a 28-year-old Special Forces soldier. The patient had his wrist broken while undercover and received primary surgical intervention in a helicopter – without anesthesia. He was finally evacuated and arrived at the healthcare facility 10 days after his injury. What was most remarkable about this patient was his drive during the course of treatment of surgery and rehabilitation, to return to serving his country and getting back into the battle field.

"I admired his selfless commitment to risk his life for something he believes in, and treating his injuries was my small way of helping make our world a better and safer place," Dr. Ramirez says. The patient was back to full duty protecting our country three months later.

Dedicated to serving others, Dr. Ramirez has helped develop programs that range from feeding the homeless to providing free tutoring and mentoring to disadvantaged and minority students. He currently volunteers in various capacities and hopes to continue to provide orthopaedic care to individuals in low-income countries through mission trips and development projects.

Dr. Ramirez authored over 20 articles and book chapters based on his research, raging from "Biomechanics of reconstruction techniques" for "Tommy John" surgery to "Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement for Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears and Cuff Tear Arthropathy."

Born in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Ramirez is fluent in Spanish and is committed to serving our Spanish-speaking population. He and his wife (also a physician) have two young children. He enjoys spending time with his children, the outdoors, running and cycling, as well as playing basketball and baseball.
